Flu Season
September 19, 2022 by Keely Knopp
During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, the flu seemed to fall by the wayside, not receiving nearly as much attention as its more recent and deadly cousin. However, the flu is still a dangerous illness that needs to be taken seriously by employers and workers alike. According to the CDC, influenza causes approximately 200,000 hospitalizations and 36,000 deaths in the U.S. each year.
The seasonal influenza vaccine is the best line of defense against severe illness due to the flu, and Mercy Occupational Medicine offers in-clinic and onsite flu vaccinations to help protect your workforce from this potentially deadly and costly threat.
Recommended timing of flu vaccination. The CDC recommends everyone over the age of 6 months receive the flu vaccine each year (with few exceptions), ideally during the months of September or October, before flu season peaks. Vaccination is particularly important for people who are at higher risk for developing serious flu complications.
Mercy Urgent Care can help support your employees with flu vaccinations for your workforce. To learn about onsite flu vaccination clinics for your business, contact Jon Medin jmedin@mercyurgentcare.org or call 828.252.3443.
